Zhou Yi — the Spirit of China

Yi Jing (also known as I Ching) is the Chinese classic book of changes which dates back thousands of years, and reveals the knowledge of nature. It is one of the most important philosophy and oracle books of China. Over thousands of years, it has become a crucial part of traditional Chinese life and thought, and today the philosophy of Yi Jing still has a deep influence to people’s daily living. Yi Jing is the spirit of China.

Yi Jing has two parts, one is the philosophy part, first translated to a foreign language (German) in the nineteenth century by Richard Wilhelm (1831-1916). The book was then rendered into English by Cary F. Baynes. After the publication of the book, this ancient Chinese wisdom slowly filtered through the west.

The second part of Yi Jing is the prediction part, invented by the legendary Fu Si (4477BC), and upgraded by the King Zhou in Shang dynasty (1765BC). King Zhou systematised the complicated prediction methods and complied them into a book. From then the Yi Jing prediction was also called Zhou Yi Yu Ce by Chinese, to honor King Zhou. The method of Zhou Yi prediction is one of the most revered oracles in the world.

Having been born and brought up in China, I am luckily able to access the original text books and theories, and hence learn and study the ancient wisdom from its origin, as well as meeting with great masters in China. And as a Chinese metaphysics researcher and consultant, I have being using Zhou Yi Yu Ce for clients to predict event outcomes, in aspects of career, marriage, children, studies, finance, health, illness, missing people, missing objects etc, and have achieved accurate results.

The tool for the prediction is three ancient Chinese coins. You throw the coins, and record the results in solid (yang) or broken (yin) lines.

The prediction is based on eight universal principles or natural laws: heaven, earth, water, thunder, mountain, wind, lake and fire. Each is represented by a three-line configuration known as a trigram, which explains the situation. The analysis of the outcome is based on the consideration of the trigram, the elements of the time (day, month) when the prediction was conducted, the meaning of each yin or yang line, and the change of the lines, etc. To help the readers understand more about the Zhou Yi prediction, I demonstrate one life example, please view the case studies.

This prediction was done on 11th September, 2007, before the Election Day was revealed. The result of this prediction was published in the Australian Chinese Domain Weekly.

The elements of 11th September are: year of fire pig (water); month of earth rooster (metal); day of earth monkey (metal).

The question is: will Kevin Rudd be next prime minister? I tossed the coins six times, and recorded a hexagram as below:

This hexagram is a symbol of thunder above wind, the name of this hexagram is Heng (Duration). This hexagram predicts a happy time of high profits for business people and a release from difficulties and entanglements, the judgment is: everything succeeds.

Zhou Yi Yu Ce not only looked at the meaning of the hexagram, but more over the details which each line represents. The question is: Will K. Rudd be the next prime minister? The key aspect of the question is Officer, from the aspect of life and element, we can find the Officer & Ghost appear twice, which means the key aspect is strong, the wish to obtain the job is possible.

The subject represents Kevin Rudd, is falling on the officer aspect, and the elements of the officer lines are Rooster Metal and Monkey Metal, these elements are supported and strengthened by the Day (monkey metal) and Month (rooster metal), which means the key aspect of the question is at its strongest situation, plus the strong metal element is further strengthened by the earth element relates to his Wife and Money (on the sixth line from the bottom).

This indicates that Kevin Rudd would obtain the job, he would be the next Prime Minister.

This hexagram is a symbol of lake above water, water is overwhelming. The name of the hexagram is Kun (oppression). The meaning of the hexagram is isolation. It predicts obstructions everywhere. This hexagram strongly advises extreme care and caution; perhaps it is beneficial to change jobs, or business or direction. If you get this hexagram, do not proceed with any of your plans.

Let us look at the hexagram in more details: first, the key aspect of the question is officer, and it appears on the third line from the bottom, the element is fire, the hexagram form a strong water structure, the single fire element obviously is in a dangerous situation, denoting that the wish to obtain the position is very difficult.

Secondary, the subject represents himself, the element is tiger wood, tiger clashes against the day represented by monkey. This indicates that John Howard is in extremely bad situation, and he is facing clashes.

Thirdly, the life aspect Brothers refer to colleague or competitors, and it appears on the fifth line from the bottom, in this case, brother is his competitor, Kevin Rudd, the element is rooster metal, metal element is supported by the day and the month, and it is at the strongest situation.
