House Cleansing

Some people often find the strange things in their home. Like hearing the strange noises, kids are scared, occupants are having nightmares, experiencing strange headache or sickness after sleeping in the room, etc.

Here is an easy method to cleansing the home.

Purify the house, means removing the impurities of the home and the negative energy of the home. Whether it is a new home, a second-hand home, or an old home refurbished, make sure to clean your home before moving in.

If you are already in a home and had experienced mixed feelings among the family and the occupants, some bad things that affect the family’s peace and health, diseases or disasters, you can also use the method to clean your home.

The easy way that you can do it yourself is to prepare Five Grains: rice, millet, sorghum, black beans, green beans and some sea salt. The five grains correspond to the five branches.

First, choose an auspicious day, mix the five grains and salt, open all doors and windows start to scatter from indoors to outdoor, and recite the words as they are scattered.

“此宅有主，敬告四方， 该离需去，该来则徃，五谷杂粮， 四代供养，宅神归位，闲杂避让“。 “The lord of this house says to all directions that they must go away with grain and bread. Feeding for generations. The god of this place is restored; all other spirits must be avoidance”. Spread the grain in every room while reading, until the grain is up to the door. Then go to the kitchen, place the red cloth on the stove, put the grain into a bowl, and put the bowl of the grain with the other tributes. Place water, flowers, steamed buns, fruits, etc. on red pater, light a column of incense (can be nine sticks of incense) and say:   “宅神已到，灶神归位，闲杂避让”. (‘the house god has arrived, the cook god has returned to his place, and all the uninvited spirits leave me alone’).

Use the left hand to insert the incense into the bowl. It is best to start the incense from outside the house, if it’s inconvenient, remain indoors, but do not shout loudly in the house. When the aroma burns out, close all the doors and windows and then you can remove the tribute. The grain and salt that is scattered on the ground can be left for a while, and it can be cleared and disposed of before moving the furniture. It can also be processed the same day of moving the furniture. Hang the red cloth on the door frame of the residence and remove it after three days.

The cleanup of the house is complete. A clean house is also called a home, and in a broad sense, its function is to expel foreign spirits, to sweep away evil spirits, and to settle the family gods. It is a declaration to the four parties, warning the outside world that ‘all those in the house are protected by the house god’.  With the protection of the house god, the family can live a stable life without outside interference.
